“Seeds may not look like much, but seeds have changed the course of history before”, said Norway’s Minister of International Development Anne Beathe Tvinnereim at the launch of the Emergency Reserve, the first financial mechanism to help genebanks in need.

The climate crisis is putting our food supply at stake – but we can still limit its impacts by developing more climate-resilient crops and farming systems. In September 2021, the Crop Trust and Government of Norway launched a groundbreaking project, Biodiversity for Opportunities, Livelihoods and Development (BOLD) to conserve and use seeds from low-income countries to produce climate-resistant varieties to combat the climate emergency. At this launchpad, they launched the Emergency Reserve to rescue seed collections at great risk.
