This landscape talk will focus on viewing forest management as part of a wider landscape management approach. By showcasing a solution for sustainable and integrative forest management that has been successfully practiced in Central Asia, the talk aims at highlighting the need for a landscape perspective in forest management planning to address the various environmental, social, and economic challenges that forest management faces.
The talk will focus on the case of Tajikistan, where the Joint Forest Management (JFM) approach was used successfully. JFM allows the local population – either individuals or groups – to actively participate in forest management and support the rehabilitation of degraded natural forests.
